Incoming SACMA President: South Africa Collieries Managers Association (SACMA).

Emmanuel Gwata is a Senior Mining Manager with experience in Mine Planning and Production functions. He has experience in underground and open pit mining in the commodities following commodities, coal, iron ore, gold, and Platinum Group Metals (PGM’s).

He holds a BSc. Mining Engineering Honours degree (1990) from the University of Zimbabwe and obtained a Master’s in Business Administration degree (MBA) in 2003 from the Zimbabwe Open University. He also holds a Mine Managers Certificate of Competency (Coal) and is a registered Professional Engineering with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
Emmanuel is currently employed as General Manager with Masemanzi Mining Holdings from November 2022. Prior to this appointment, he was employed at South32 (now Seriti Resources) in the roles of Mine Manager on the open pit coal mines. He also assumed the roles of Technical services Manager (2014), Manager Integrated Operations Projects (2015) and Mine Manager Opencast (2016 – 2017), Mine Manager Process & Mining (2018 – 2019) and in 2020 moved back to Wolvekrans Colliery as the Mine Manager. In 2021 he joined Tau Mining Consultants as a General Manager and had a brief stint at Isibonelo Colliery, Thungela in 2022.
This all culminates in more than seventeen years open pit mining experience in the coal mining business.

Emmanuel has been on the SACMA Council from 2015 and held the portfolio Chair of the Road Transport Forum and worked with the METF (Minerals Education Trust Fund) mining sub-committee. He has been leading the sub-committee on SACMA peer review audits in the last 2 years.
He has a strong business focus in running operations, which is complimented by his experience in both mine planning and mine production.
