WELCOME NOTE
We are honoured and delighted to welcome all the eminent speakers, fellow colleagues from different mining houses across the country, service providers, subject matter experts, partners, and exhibitors to COAL SAFE 2025. The success of the conference depends ultimately on the committee that worked on planning and organizing the entire event. Recognition should go to all the committee members for their inputs and commitment, as well as our adjudication panel, partners, speakers, and attendees. My heartfelt appreciation goes to all of you, THANK YOU.
Theme
The theme for COALSAFE 2025 is “Sustainably Delivering Today, Shaping Tomorrow” for the coal mining industry in South Africa which carries a dual message about operational responsibility and long-term sustainability. This emphasizes the coal mining industries commitment to the safety and well-being of workers, the community, and the environment in its day-to-day operations and prioritizes safe practices, hazard management, and protective measures to ensure that workers can return home safely at the end of each day. This also addresses compliance with local laws and the proactive engagement with unions and stakeholders to ensure that workplace standards remain high.
Long-Term Sustainability – "Shaping tomorrow":
This part signals a focus on future preparedness, whether that means evolving the operations to embrace cleaner technologies, improving environmental stewardship, or contributing to social responsibility. “Shaping tomorrow” implies that while the industry meets the immediate demands of coal production today, it is also thinking about the long-term impact on the environment, the transition to greener energy alternatives, and the welfare of the community. This involves efforts like reducing emissions, exploring sustainable mining practices, or preparing for a future in which coal’s role in the global energy mix decreases.
Words From SACMA:
The South African Colliery Managers’ Association is looking forward to bringing together the state, employer, labour members and service providers to share best practices, collaborate and network. We trust that you will find this conference stimulating, rewarding and meaningful.
Yours in HSEC
George Hattingh
SACMA President
