Mr David Msiza Chief Inspector Of Mines | DMRE Mr Msiza holds a BSc Mining Engineering degree from the University of the Witwatersrand. He joined the Department of Mineral and Energy in 1998 as an inspector responsible for conducting safety audits and inspections. He became a senior inspector in 2000 and in 2007 thereafter becoming the Deputy Chief Inspector of Mines. He held this position for three years after which he assumed the role of Chief Inspector of Mines. His role as Chief Inspector is the responsibility to execute the constitution mandate of the Department of Mineral Resources to protect and safeguard the health and safety of mine employees and communities affected by mining operations. Dolly Skhosana 2nd Vice President | Dolly Skhosana is a self-driven and talented Mining Engineer, currently appointed as a Mining Superintendent (2.6.1 MHSA Appointee) at Grootegeluk, Exxaro Resources. She has over 10 years’ experience in underground and opencast mining; experience and knowledge in Production, Technical Services (Mine Planning) and Fleet Management (Optimization). Her strong leadership skills have enabled her to successfully lead diverse teams, serve as a leader, and create a positive impact. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Mining Engineering , Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Industrial Engineering, both from the University of Pretoria, and a Mine Managers Certificate of Competency (Coal). The need and desire to develop and grow as a leader led to successful completion of the Programme for Management Development at the Gordon Institute of Business Science in 2017, Senior Leaders Development Programme at Wits Business School in 2019, Leadership in the Connection Economy through the University of the North West in 2021 and Developing Women Leaders in February 2023 through the Graduate School of Business – University of Cape Town. She currently serves as 2nd Vice President of the South African Colliery Managers Association (SACMA), a professional body for Managers across the coal industry. Dolly currently holds the COAL SAFE portfolio and serves as the Chairperson of the committee, represents SACMA in the Mining Regulations Advisory Committee (MRAC) and the South African Mining Institute of Safety Health and Environment (SAMI SHE). She also supports the association’s media and communications team, as well as the marketing and fund-raising team. |

Dr Thuthula Balfour Speaker | Dr Balfour is a qualified medical doctor and public health medicine specialist with an MBA. She is also a qualified coach. She is currently the Head of Health at the Minerals Council South Africa and has a wealth of management experience that spans 38 years, 25 of which have been at a strategic level and 18 in the mining industry. In 2018 she was named as one of the Top 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining. She also served on the South African Health Ministerial Advisory Committee on COVID-19 from 2020 till 2023. Her passions are development, equality and empowerment of young people. |

George Hattingh SACMA President 2025 | George is a man of authority because he is a person with integrity that lives his word. Yet, he knows that a man’s degree of leadership is dependent on his willingness to serve and care for his people. He is performance driven and committed to continuous improvement through operational excellence. He holds two degrees and a diploma, viz. MBL (Master in Business Leadership), B. Tech (Mining Engineering) and a NHD (Coal Mining). In addition, he completed Leadership Programmes (SLDP and MDP). Achievements George’s business and operational excellence is proved by the many management positions he held. He is very versatile and is used by different forums to design processes and systems to continuously improve. Many of his good practices are used Sasol Mining wide. He has an excellent knowledge of Service Provider Management and is extensively used in the drawing up of scope of works, COP’s, and SLA’s. He contributed to a large extent to the success of the amalgamation between East Mine, West Mine and Twistdraai to form the current Twistdraai Colliery, through the standardization of services departments, transfer of best practices and the incorporation of Service Providers in non-core activities. He has sound budget knowledge of both labour and operational requirements. Spread sheets and systems designed by him are used by various departments in Sasol Mining. Mike Teke Speaker | Mike Teke is the CEO of Seriti Resources Holdings which he co-founded in 2018. Mike has held HR roles at several companies including Unilever from 1992 to 1994, Bayer from 1994 to 1999, BHP Billiton from 2000 to 2005, and Impala Platinum from 2005 to 2007. Upon his departure from BHP Billiton, he became a founding member of Optimum Coal from 2007 to 2012 where he took on the role of CEO, and later Non-Executive Chairman until 2015. Mike was also the VP of the Chamber of Mines in SA between 2011/12 and subsequently became the President from 2013 to 2017. He became the Chairman of the Richards Bay Coal Terminal Board in 2012 and stepped down in 2016 to become a Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Remuneration Committee. Mike currently serves as Executive Chairman and controlling shareholder of Masimong Group Holdings and Non-Executive Chairman for several companies, including Rolfes, and Anchor Group. He previously served as the Chairman of Council at the University of Johannesburg. He was appointed as a Professor of Practice at the Johannesburg Business School in 2023. This title is only conferred on professionals who contribute to UJ’s academic enterprise through their professional expertise. Mangaliso Sethethi Exxaro Resources Ltd | Mangaliso is a sincere, motivated, hard-working, reliable, committed and dedicated individual with a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering (BSc Eng) from the University of the Witwatersrand, Underground Coal Mine Blasting Certificate and Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency (MMCC). His experience is fair in both underground and opencast coal operations. Currently Mangaliso is a Business Unit Manager at Matla Mine (Exxaro Resources). He has been involved in different mining related projects and planning and heading the mining department. Mangaliso is affiliated with the Engineering Council of South African (ECSA) as a Professional Mining Engineer (Pr Eng Mining). Furthermore, he’s a member of the South African Colliery Manager’s Association (SACMA) as a Chairperson for the Mpumalanga Northern Region. Mangaliso has completed the Management Development Program with University of Pretoria, and an MBA from the University of Stellenbosch and currently an examiner for the Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency for Coal and Metalliferous mines. Finally, Mangaliso has been a finalist for the 2017 Standard Bank Rising Star for the category of Mining and Energy, and His leadership philosophy is around authenticity, people development, mentorship and a culture of hard work and collaboration. |
