Mr Matome Makwela is currently the Senior Policy Analyst in the Environment Department at the Minerals Council South Africa. His responsibility amongst others is to conduct policy reviews and analysis on legislation, policies and strategies from government pertaining to water, waste, chemicals and biodiversity management and assesses their potential impact on the mining industry, particularly the members of the Minerals Council. His career started with the national department of Health, responsible water, waste and chemicals and joined Toyota SA Motors responsible for environmental programmes and then Gauteng provincial department of Agriculture, Conservation and Environment responsible for amongst others, review of environmental impact assessment reports, before joining the Minerals Council South Africa.

He holds an MSc Degree from the University of Limpopo, a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management from Wits Business School and an Education, Training and Development (ETD) Diploma from the University of Johannesburg (formerly RAU).
